Aberdeen has 10 calls this year, compared to six (742 passengers) in 2010, says Brian Andrew, assistant harbour master Aberdeen Harbour Board.
Calls this year include Silversea Cruises’ Silver Explorer (ex Prince Albert II) and Silver Cloud, Hurtigruten’s Fram, Hapag-Lloyd’s Europa and Compagnie du Ponant’s Le Diamant.
There are two berths at the Scottish port: Clipper Quay 160m length overall and 9m depth; and Regent Quay 120m length overall and 9m depth. The port advises that early contact with the harbour master for all cruiseships is essential to discuss any tidal restrictions on proposed berthing dates.
The maximum size of ship that can come alongside is 165m long, 26m beam and 8.5m depth. There is also a secure landing stage for tenders for larger vessels which can be anchored 2.5nm out in the bay. This year Europa will be at anchor.
Bunkering, garbage disposal and water are all available. There are public telephones and toilets available at the pier.
From the port into the town centre is 1km and to the airport is about 10km.
As well as being a cruiseship port of call, Aberdeen has a roll-on/roll-off ferry terminal. In total about 140,000 passengers are handled each year.
