Copenhagen has once again set a new record in 2011, numbering 368 calls, 770,000 passengers and 200,000 crew members.
In recognition of its success the port has been named Europe’s leading cruise port at the World Travel Awards. This is the fourth time it has won the award, prior times being 2010, 2008 and 2005.
“We are extremely proud to have received the award for the fourth time, especially as it is based on a survey among travel industry partners and passengers from all over the world, but also because it is well deserved. It is a great tribute to our many talented employees and partners, who make every visit to Copenhagen a fantastic experience for our guests,” Arnt Møller Pedersen, general manager cruise at CMP, says.
“Copenhagen has become the preferred turnaround destination in northern Europe, due not least to the strong product that CMP and its partners in the Cruise Copenhagen Network have developed, which ensures that passengers and crew enjoy a hassle-free stay in Copenhagen, with many good experiences.”
The port has no intention of resting on its laurels. For the 2013 season it will be taking a new quay into use – an 1,100 metre long quay with three terminals in Copenhagen’s northern harbour, Nordhavn. “This will ensure an even better welcome for our guests in Copenhagen. Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of this year and we expect to be able to take the new facilities into use on 1 May 2013,” Pedersen says.
