As Copenhagen’s cruise summer season came to an end on October 6 with the arrival of Marco Polo, the Danish port already had 50 more calls booked for 2011 than this year.
“A total of 361 calls are already booked, giving an extra DKK1 bn (E0.13bn) in revenue for the city. The trend is both for increased numbers as well as larger ships with more passengers, giving us new challenges,” said Ole Andersen, chairman Cruise Copenhagen Network.
This year there were 304 calls of which 135 were turnaround. A total of 530,000 passengers visited the city. Disney Cruise Line made its first visit this year.
In 2013 Copenhagen Malmo Port opens its new cruiseship facilities in the northen part of the harbour, Nordhavnen, which together with Langelinie, will cater to the expected increased growth.
In December Copenhagen is on the Christmas cruise map with Fred Olsen Cruise Lines’ Balmoral and Black Watch and P&O Cruises’ Artemis calling the port on 2, 13 and 17 December respectively.
