Dover Harbour Board stated that an operational highlight for 2010 was 167 calls and more than 300,000 passengers. This compares favourably with 2009 when there were 136 cruise calls and about 260,000 passengers to the UK port.
Issuing the 2010 annual report & accounts, a statement commented on the “record-breaking year for the port’s cruise business”.
Covering ferry and cargo business also, the figures showed that costs decreased while operating profit held firm. More than 15 capital projects were completed during the year and a £75m (E84.6m) investment plan focusing on the Eastern Docks was approved.
Also during 2010, the port was awarded the Carbon Trust Standard, achieved ISO14001 certification, was awarded the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents QSA Diamond Award, retained the Investors in People accreditation, halved the number of road collisions in the port, introduced a new Neighbourhood Police Unit and retained the Yacht and Harbour Association’s five Gold Anchors top rating for the marina.
Dover played host to Princess Cruises’ Emerald Princess for the first time on May 10. She arrived from Le Havre on a 27-day transatlantic cruise from Fort Lauderdale and sailed on to Rotterdam for a Baltic capitals itinerary.
