Oceania Cruises’ newbuilding 66,000gt Marina will be calling Douglas, Isle of Man, on July 24 2011 during her inaugural year. The company first brought Insignia to the island in July 2004.
Marina and Holland America Line’s Rotterdam are the two largest passenger vessels ever to visit the island. Also calling this year was Residensea’s The World on August 12.
Smaller cruiseships, such as the Hurtigruten vessels, Swan Hellenic’s Minerva and Cruise & Maritime Voyages’ Alexander von Humboldt, can come alongside.
Larger vessels, over 150mm in length, transfer passengers in a 10-minute tender ride to the new cruise pontoon which is five minutes’ walk to the pedestrianised main shopping centre of Douglas, the island’s capital.
