Amsterdam strengthens its offering to the industry

The Amsterdam region had a record-breaking year in 2011 but expects this year to be even more impressive, according to Frans Baud, board member Amsterdam Cruise Port. 

He told guests during a breakfast at Cruise Shipping Miami in March that there were 123 calls to the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam and 27 at the Felison Terminal IJmuiden last year with 150 and 44 respectively scheduled this year.

MSC Cruises positions ship in Cork for the first time in 2012

MSC Cruises will be adding Cork to four new itineraries next summer giving passengers the opportunity to embark and disembark MSC Lirica in Cork for the first time.

Lorenzo Diamantini, director of sales for Ireland and Northern Ireland MSC Cruises, said: “The company is featuring the two ports [Cork and Dublin] due to the incredible growth it has experienced in the Irish market over the last three years. Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge)

Is a traditional double-leaf Dutch draw-bridge connecting sides of river Amstel. About every 20 minutes the bridge opens, as the bridge master lets boats through. The original bridge was built in 1670

Anne Frank House

Anne Frank House in the center of Amsterdam is the hiding place where Anne Frank wrote her famous diary during the World War II. The original diary is on display as part of the permanent exhibition.

Van Gogh Museum

This modern museum houses some 200 paintings and 550 sketches showing Van Gogh. This collection, combined with hundreds of letters by Van Gogh and selected works by his friends and contemporaries.
